Biz/Community Briefs:
Company announces wireless network
By BRIAN PASSEY
bpassey@thespectrum.com
ST. GEORGE - The largest mobile high-speed wireless Internet
network in the United States may soon be found in St.
George, with a basic 56K connection free to all with
wireless capabilities.
The announcement was made Thursday at the Main Street
Theater and Ballroom by CoConnect, Inc., a wireless Internet
service provider based in Salt Lake City. The service will
be available in the "bowl" section of St. George between the
black hills by June 1, said Jerry Warnick, CoConnect
executive vice president.
More than 100 antennas containing CoConnect's proprietary
technology have already been installed and at least 100 more
antennas are to come, making the service available through
the four-city metro area, Warnick said.
"We recognized a great opportunity in St. George," he said.
"We are excited to be here and are so happy that St. George
became the obvious choice." Warnick said the company
chose St. George rather than Salt Lake City because the area
was small enough to serve the entire community. ......MORE
